The suite’s transformation began with a clear vision: create a space that feels less like a traditional guest room and more like a night in a luxury Parisian hotel. As the clients explained, “Using this concept as a theme gave us the freedom to overindulge in features. These are design elements that are at odds with what most people today prefer for everyday living, but which they can revel in for a stay as a guest,” said homeowner, Jeff S.
The centerpiece of this romantic retreat is the dramatic window treatments, crafted in deep red Belgian velvet. These aren’t just draperies; they’re the foundation of the room’s entire character. Every pleat was meticulously crafted to ensure the panels would look equally stunning whether drawn closed for privacy or opened to welcome in the Atlanta sunshine. The plush fabric and custom gold hardware work together to create that perfect balance of opulence and sophistication you’d expect in a luxury Parisian hotel.

The journey to perfection included some unexpected creative challenges. Initially, the window moldings were painted white when we installed the draperies. After installation, the clients felt this gave an overall “candy-cane” effect to the room that wasn’t foreseen during the design process. The solution? We were called back to un-install these beautiful draperies. The clients then repainted the molding black, which then lead to repainting the floor black as well, which transformed the entire look of this space into something even more sophisticated than originally envisioned. This kind of collaborative problem-solving is what makes custom work so rewarding—each challenge presents an opportunity to enhance the final design.
In the adjoining bathroom, we continued the Parisian hotel experience with a flat Roman shade made from the same luxurious velvet. This choice perfectly complements the space’s black and white palette and organic touches, creating a cohesive design throughout the entire suite.
The attention to detail extends far beyond the window treatments. French-style crystal chandeliers cast a warm glow over carefully selected antique furniture pieces. A heavily carved fireplace serves as a stunning focal point, while a large gilded mirror amplifies both light and luxury. Bronze statuary and even a red rose-petal rug add those perfect finishing touches that make the space feel authentically Parisian.
As the clients beautifully expressed their vision: “Our hope is that people spending a night in this space wake up feeling that they’ve enjoyed a night in Paris without the jet lag,” said Jeff S. Looking at the finished suite, with its perfect marriage of historic charm and Parisian luxury, “I’d say we’ve achieved exactly that.”
